There is a multitude of high quality divers watches on the commercial market today, but since the pricing of watches is the main priority to most customers, I’ve compiled a list of the very best and recommended divers watches below $5000.

Selection Criteria:

  • Price below $5000
  • Swiss Made
  • Swiss Movement
  • Respected and trusted quality Swiss wristwatch brands
  • Minimum water resistance of 200 meters/656 feet

Recommended divers watches under $5000:

  1. Longines Legend Diver
  2. TAG Heuer Aquaracer
  3. Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver
  4. Alpina Seastrong
  5. Oris Aquis
  6. Oris Divers
  7. Oris Prodiver
  8. Tudor Heritage Black Bay
  9. Tudor Pelagos
  10. Omega Seamaster Diver 300M
  11. Breitling Super Ocean Heritage 42
  12. Breitling Avenger II
  13. Breitling Avenger II Seawolf
  14. Breitling Colt Automatic
  15. Eterna Kontiki

1.) Longines Legend Diver ($1,500 – $2,500)

2. TAG Heuer Aquaracer ($1,000 – $4,000)

3. Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver ($2,000 – $3,000)

Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver

Water resistance: 600 meters/1,970 feet. Case diameter: 43mm. Case material: Stainless steel or black PVD sandblasted stainless steel case.

Movements:

  • Maurice Lacroix automatic movement ML 115, base movement Swiss automatic Sellita SW200, with 26 jewels, 28,800 vph, and a 38 hour power reserve.
  • Maurice Lacroix automatic movement ML 112, base movement Swiss automatic ETA/Valjoux 7750, with 25 jewels, 28,800 vph, and a 46 hour power reserve. This movement is used for chronographs.

Comments:

All of their watches are equipped with a Rolex style automatic helium valve at nine o’clock, at the side of the case. This means that the watch will automatically adjust and restore the pressure inside the case of the watch without you having to do anything manually by hand.

Unlike most divers watches, the Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver is equipped with an inner bidirectional bezel operated from the outside with a crown/button. This is a massive safety feature which makes it impossible for the diver to accidentally knock the bezel out of its position. Knowing exactly at what time you entered the water is key to not running out of oxygen.

One of the most versatile, rugged and affordable men’s divers watches and tool watches available on the commercial market today, the Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver will prove to be a loyal companion to any divers watch aficionado, or to any gent or lady, that wants an all-round watch which can be used for daily wear and life’s special occasions.

4. Alpina Seastrong ($600 – $3,500)

5. Oris Aquis ($600 – $4,000)

6. Oris Divers ($1,000 – $2,000)

7. Oris Prodiver ($1,500 – $4,000)

Oris ProDiver

Water resistance: 100 bar/1,000 meters/3,280 feet. Case diameter: 49mm & 51mm. Case material: Titanium.

Movements:

  • Oris automatic movement 733, base movement Swiss automatic SW 200 (Sellita), with 26 jewels, 28,800 vph, and a 38 hour power reserve.
  • Oris automatic movement 761, base movement Swiss automatic SW 220-1, with 26 jewels, 28,800 vph, and a 38 hour power reserve.
  • Oris automatic movement 774, base movement Swiss automatic SW 500 (Sellita) with 25 jewels, 28,800 vph, and a 48 hour power reserve.

Comments:

Oris ProDiver, in similarity to Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver, too is equipped with a Rolex style automatic helium valve at nine o’clock, at the side of the case. This means that the watch will automatically adjust and restore the pressure inside the case of the watch without you having to do anything manually by hand.

Some of the Oris ProDivers come with a chronograph, but all are equipped with a date function.

The water depth is a massive 100 bar/1,000 meters/3,280 feet. Physically it’s impossible for any human being to go down that deep but it is reassuring knowing that your watch has resources beyond what any diver would need.

Built out of a light weight material, titanium, your watch will be lighter on your wrist despite its massive diameters of 49mm and 51mm respectively, depending on the model.

Oris ProDiver is one of the most rugged, robust and relentless quality divers watches available today on the commercial market that money can buy.

Recommended use: for daily wear, diving and sports activities.

8. Tudor Heritage Black Bay ($3,000 – $5,000)

9. Tudor Pelagos ($3,000 – $4,000)

10. Omega Seamaster Diver 300M ($2,500 – $4,500)

Also known as the “Omega Seamaster Professional 300M”, the “Omega SMP” or the “Omega James Bond watch”.

11. Breitling Super Ocean Heritage 42 ($2,000 – $5,000)

12. Breitling Avenger II ($3,000 – $5,000)

13. Breitling Avenger II Seawolf ($2,800 – $4,500)

14. Breitling Colt Automatic ($2,500 – $4,000)

Went with the alpina I found a new extreme diver online for a good deal very well made watch came with rubber strap not super happy with that not that it’s a bad strap in fact quite comfortable but I prefer metal bracelets so have one on order …attention to detail is very high especially at the price point very comfortable to wear unlike a lot of divers msrp for this watch was 1650 which is a great deal for the quality and design you get but if you can handle a one or two year old model you can steal one basically..so if anyone is looking for a great Swiss made watch with a Swiss automatic mov’t that isn’t the same as everyone is wearing at an unbelievable price point I would recommend you look at alpina

Nothing wrong with Alpina. They are excellent and well engineered timepieces from a respected brand. As far as bracelets vs rubber straps are concerned: there are pros and cons with both, but a metal bracelet is more durable, hard-wearing and serviceable for sure.

Great blog, thank you for the time and effort you e put in. I have been a watch enthusiast for years but have not been able to begin collecting yet due to cost. I have owned one Rolex sub which I loved however sadly it was stolen in a home burglary. Anyway to my point I am wanting to purchase an entry level Swiss diver watch. My budget is limited at this time so am considering the following alpina, longines, and tissot from a purely quality and value standpoint how would you rank these.

Thank you Jason, and I much appreciate your comments.
The ranking is subjective of course, but if it were up to me the ranking would probably look something like this (placing the “best” brand first on the list, and ending with the least good quality brand):

      1) Alpina (the least known brand of these three, but offers in my opinion the best quality watches compared to Longines and Tissot)
      2) Longines (the most prestigious and well known of these brands, should probably be ranked in the middle, as far as quality is concerned)
      3) Tissot (famous and iconic name, well known, has existed since 1853, but offers lower tier quality watches compared to Alpina and Longines)

      Cheers
