Comments:

The Alpina Seastrong Divers Watch Collection was released by Alpina in 1969.

The Alpina Seastrong Collection consists of divers watches and sailing watches.

These are typical sporty looking tool watches with a robust feel to them and a technical and professional look to them. Even though Alpina may not be a very famous brand, it offers you excellent quality watches considering the money you spend on them As far as movements and price range are concerned, Alpina probably belongs in the same category of watch brands and manufacturers such as TAG Heuer, Longines and Oris. Alpina’s divers watches are somewhat similar in design to the Omega Seamaster Collection.

The fact that Alpina is a less common and less famous brand may actually be an advantage since it probably would make the brand more interesting. This very unusual brand could become an interesting topic among watch lovers, friends and acquaintances.

The movements used by Alpina Seastrong are either quartz (battery driven) or automatic, and the movements are either ETA/Valjoux movements procured from Swatch Group or Sellita movements from Sellita.

The crown is rubber coated for protection and easier grip, the bezel is unidirectional and the water resistance ranges from 300 meters/1,000 feet, to 1000 meters/3,300 feet, depending on the model.

This makes the Alpina Seastrong an ideal tool watch, divers watch, and sports watch alike, suitable professional diving.

  • Oris automatic movement 774, base movement Swiss automatic SW 500 (Sellita) with 25 jewels, 28,800 vph, and a 48 hour power reserve.

Comments:

Oris ProDiver, in similarity to Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver, too is equipped with a Rolex style automatic helium valve at nine o’clock, at the side of the case. This means that the watch will automatically adjust and restore the pressure inside the case of the watch without you having to do anything manually by hand.

Some of the Oris ProDivers come with a chronograph, but all are equipped with a date function.

The water depth is a massive 100 bar/1,000 meters/3,280 feet. Physically it’s impossible for any human being to go down that deep but it is reassuring knowing that your watch has resources beyond what any diver would need.

Built out of a light weight material, titanium, your watch will be lighter on your wrist despite its massive diameters of 49mm and 51mm respectively, depending on the model.

Oris ProDiver is one of the most rugged, robust and relentless quality divers watches available today on the commercial market that money can buy.

Recommended use: for daily wear, diving and sports activities.

Rolex manufactures the Tudor watches at the Rolex facilities in Geneva, Switzerland.

Maybe you wonder why Tudor Heritage Black Bay has a “vintage look”.

Its vintage look is a homage to the original Rolex Submariners of the 1950s. Just like the original Rolex Submariners of the 1950s and the 1960s, the watches within the Tudor Heritage collection don’t have a date function.

Opting for Tudor means you are opting for a watch which belongs to a respected, and admired Swiss luxury brand, and opting specifically for Tudor Heritage Black Bay means you’ll get a watch with a classic, timeless and understated Rolex Submariner vintage design.

If you’ve always wanted a brand-new, fresh from the factory divers watch with a vintage look, Tudor Heritage might just be the watch you are looking for.

Tudor Heritage Black Bay is one of the most versatile and elegant divers watches on the commercial market today. It can both be regarded as a tool –  and divers watch, and a dress watch.

  • One of the very best adjustable clasps and bracelets ever made, which you can adjust on the fly without using any tools.

Comments:

Pelagos is Greek and means the deep or the deep sea.

Tudor Pelagos is unabashedly and uncompromislingly a tool – and divers watch, which interestingly is elegant, understated and versatile enough, to be used with formal clothes in elegant settings.

Buying a Tudor means that you’ll get a taste of the Rolex brand, but in a considerably more reasonable price range, and buying a Tudor Pelagos means you are opting for the very best divers watch that Tudor can offer you today.

Opting for Tudor Pelagos means you’ll get one of the very best divers watches ever made by the Swiss luxury watch industry.

Quality wise, the Tudor Pelagos is on par with, if not better, than the Rolex Submariner.

Omega Seamaster Diver 300M

Special Features:

  • All of their watches have a manual helium valve located at the ten o’clock position.
  • A few models are equipped with a chronograph and a GMT-function.

The Famous Omega Helium Valve Positioned at Ten O’Clock:

A common question is what the safety valve/helium valve positioned at ten o’clock is used for. This helium valve is used for deep sea diving and prevents overpressure in the watch. The feature is fully functional but isn’t used for ordinary amateur diving down to a depth of 30 meters. You unscrew it to open it and screw it back to seal it. Only use it on dry land – never under water.

Comments:

The “James Bond Connection”:

The Omega Seamaster Diver 300m is perhaps most famous for having been the wristwatch of James Bond actors Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, in the Bond films of the 1990s and the early 2000s.

Although the modern generation of the Omega Seamaster Diver 300m was never used in the Bond films, it still retains many of the technical, mechanical and aesthetic features of the original “James Bond Omega Seamaster Diver 300m”.

About the Omega Seamaster Diver 300m:

Omega Seamaster Diver 300m/Omega Seamaster Professional 300m is the classic Seamaster which is Omega’s very first divers watch. Omega Seamaster Professional dates back to the 1950s. It’s the oldest of all the Seamaster collections. Even though the Omega Seamaster Professional has undergone several aesthetic changes since the 1950s, the Seamaster Professional Collection can trace its origins back to the 1950s.

The Omega Seamaster made its debut in 1948 as a water resistant sports and dress watch, but it wasn’t until 1957, that Omega Seamaster became known to the world as Omega’s legendary divers watch.

Ever since 1957, the Omega Seamaster has been the official competitor of Rolex’s champion – the Rolex Submariner. Since that year, Omega and Rolex have been in fierce competition over who has got the best divers watch

Omega Seamaster Diver 300m is known across the world for its exceptionally reliable and accurate movements, and unusually beautiful, and comfortable watch cases and bracelets.

The Sea Horse Logo on the caseback of the Omega Seamaster Diver 300m, has achieved something akin to legend status.

The Omega Seamaster Diver 300m is consistently considered by many watch enthusiasts across the world, to belong in the category of the 10 or 20 most legendary timepieces ever made.

The Co-Axial 2500 movement, which is still being used by Omega Seamaster Professional, is consistently being ranked among the top 10 best automatic/mechanical movements ever made.

In short: Omega Seamaster Diver 300m is a legend, and an icon.

Omega Seamaster Professional is a robust, well built, versatile, elegant and reliable tool-, sports-, dress-, and divers watch all in one. You can never go wrong with an Omega Seamaster Professional.

Went with the alpina I found a new extreme diver online for a good deal very well made watch came with rubber strap not super happy with that not that it’s a bad strap in fact quite comfortable but I prefer metal bracelets so have one on order …attention to detail is very high especially at the price point very comfortable to wear unlike a lot of divers msrp for this watch was 1650 which is a great deal for the quality and design you get but if you can handle a one or two year old model you can steal one basically..so if anyone is looking for a great Swiss made watch with a Swiss automatic mov’t that isn’t the same as everyone is wearing at an unbelievable price point I would recommend you look at alpina

Nothing wrong with Alpina. They are excellent and well engineered timepieces from a respected brand. As far as bracelets vs rubber straps are concerned: there are pros and cons with both, but a metal bracelet is more durable, hard-wearing and serviceable for sure.

Great blog, thank you for the time and effort you e put in. I have been a watch enthusiast for years but have not been able to begin collecting yet due to cost. I have owned one Rolex sub which I loved however sadly it was stolen in a home burglary. Anyway to my point I am wanting to purchase an entry level Swiss diver watch. My budget is limited at this time so am considering the following alpina, longines, and tissot from a purely quality and value standpoint how would you rank these.

Thank you Jason, and I much appreciate your comments.
The ranking is subjective of course, but if it were up to me the ranking would probably look something like this (placing the “best” brand first on the list, and ending with the least good quality brand):

      1) Alpina (the least known brand of these three, but offers in my opinion the best quality watches compared to Longines and Tissot)
      2) Longines (the most prestigious and well known of these brands, should probably be ranked in the middle, as far as quality is concerned)
      3) Tissot (famous and iconic name, well known, has existed since 1853, but offers lower tier quality watches compared to Alpina and Longines)

      Cheers
      Alexander
